7 Dead; Tornado Strikes Millbury, Ohio
Seven people have died from a tornado that struck Millbury, Ohio Saturday night. One of the dead is a child.

The tornado that killed seven in Millbury originated as a severe thunderstorm that also damaged a nuclear power plant in nearby Michigan.

Millbury, Ohio police chief Mark Hummer made the following statement regarding the tornado that killed seven.

“It’s a war zone. It’s pretty disheartening,” he said.

One family sought shelter at the Millbury Police Station. The father and infant made it safely inside, but the young mother was killed by the tornado.

In nearby southern Michigan more than 50 homes were destroyed and about that many additional homes received extensive damage from the storm.

The tornado hit shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday night. Residents said they felt their homes "shaking" and rushed to seek shelter.

The National Weather Service reported that as many as seven tornadoes touched down in Northwest Ohio Saturday night and Sunday morning.
