Body spotted: not recovered

fox 8 news
A body has been found in the Mississippi River near the Jefferson Parish/ St. Charles Parish line. The body was found Sunday around 3:00 p.m. about 30 feet from the shore and about 15 feet underwater, tangled in some debris.

Police say that after the body was located, a buoy was placed to mark where the body was. From the time when the buoy was placed to when the dive team suited up and entered the water, river currents loosened the body from the debris and moved it downriver. Dive teams remained in the water for over an hour, but were unsucessfull in locating the body. The search has been called off because of the lack of daylight. The search will resume on Monday.

A volunteer group from Texas Equusearch have been using sonar equipment to search for the body since Wednesday, at the request of Brian Reed's family. Reed is the man who ran from police in St. Charles Parish on January 7th in a stolen vehicle. During the chase, Reed jumped in the river. It is unknown if this is the body of Reed, but his family members are on scene.
