Body spotted: not recovered

fox 8 news
A body has been found in the Mississippi River near the Jefferson Parish/ St. Charles Parish line. The body was found Sunday around 3:00 p.m. about 30 feet from the shore and about 15 feet underwater, tangled in some debris.

Police say that after the body was located, a buoy was placed to mark where the body was. From the time when the buoy was placed to when the dive team suited up and entered the water, river currents loosened the body from the debris and moved it downriver. Dive teams remained in the water for over an hour, but were unsucessfull in locating the body. The search has been called off because of the lack of daylight. The search will resume on Monday.

A volunteer group from Texas Equusearch have been using sonar equipment to search for the body since Wednesday, at the request of Brian Reed's family. Reed is the man who ran from police in St. Charles Parish on January 7th in a stolen vehicle. During the chase, Reed jumped in the river. It is unknown if this is the body of Reed, but his family members are on scene.

Chicago Weather

weather chicago
Chicago Weather, There are several reports for Chicago’s weather, a series of storms can hit and also expect that windstorm can affects badly. The weather forecast for Chicago at 10 days seems very disturbing. However, a forecast of bad weather in Chicago 10 days is quite normal, as cold conditions expected this time of year. But the next few days could be quite historic, as the Windy City is fast becoming the snowy town. Blizzards were common in the Northeast and Midwest regions of the winter, but a storm front building could be even greater in some regions. This makes the weather in Chicago 10 days forecast even more important given that the city could be among the hardest hit in this  blizzard.
A punch one or two of snow and wind are expected to hit the north northwestern Illinois and Indiana over the next three days.

Passage of snow will become snow showers and possibly a steady light snow Monday night and continue during the night.
Accumulations of 1-3 inches are possible by Tuesday morning.
The snow should taper off around noon Tuesday before the approach of a much more efficient system of southwest.
Blizzard is a watch in effect Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday as a system of low-pressure moves to strengthen the Ohio Valley.
Tuesday afternoon snow late stable and stronger winds will push into the region, beginning south of I-80 north and dissemination during the evening.
Rate of snow Tuesday night could approach 2-3 cm per hour and when combined with sustained winds at 30-40 mph, visibility will drop significantly with near whiteout conditions possible.
Total of 12-20 inches of snow are possible between Monday night and Wednesday afternoon with locally higher amounts.
Blowing snow and blowing snow will make travel dangerous and potentially life threatening, Tuesday night.
(AP) – A massive winter storm expected to blanket the Plains and Midwest with snow and ice earlier this week.
Freezing rain and snow are forecast for much of the nation’s midsection from Monday, and could cause problems during the morning commute in some areas.
Then, heavy snow expected to hit the region Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather service issued a storm watch for Tuesday and Wednesday for southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and northwest Indiana including the cities of Milwaukee and Chicago. Snowfall could reach more than 2 feet in some areas when the storm crossed the region.

Fox 59 News Names New Co-Anchor With Controversial Past

fox 2 news detroit

A press release from Fox 59 News glows about its new co-anchor for its Fox59 News at 10 nightly newscast. It doesn't tell you about the controversial recent past Fanchon Stinger occasioned while in a similar position at a Detroit Fox affiliate.  "Fanchon's on-air success speaks for itself, but it's her desire to truly make a positive impact that sets her apart," says News Director Lee Rosenthal. "There's no other person I wanted more as a leader for our newsroom and Central Indiana." Praising her, the press release says, "Stinger, who was a morning anchor and reporter at Fox in Detroit for 11 years, became an advocate for abused children and domestic violence victims."

The press release neglects to report why she left her morning anchor spot at the Fox affiliate in Detroit. Stinger was first suspended and later fired by Fox 2 News after her live-in married boyfriend became embroiled in a bribery scandal involving Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers. Her ex-boyfriend, Rayford Jackson, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to bribe Conyers with a payment of at least $6,000 in exchange for her support of a $1.2 billion sludge disposal contract. Stinger told a local TV station that she was a victim of her ex-boyfriend's manipulation:

Fanchon told Local 4 that she has not received service of the case. She added that she didn’t know anything about it and she doesn't own a Ferrari.

Stinger lost her job as an anchor after an investigation into Jackson's involvement in a city hall scandal surfaced.

In June, Jackson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery for supplying former councilwoman Monica Conyers with at least $6,000 to secure her tie-breaking vote in a $1.2 billion controversial sludge disposal contract. Jackson is currently serving five years in prison in upstate New York.

Last year, Stinger told Local 4's Carmen Harlan that she did not have any involvement with Synagro, and that she never did any work for the Houston-based sludge company.

According to Local 4, Stinger is also being sued for an autombile accident in which her ex-boyfriend was involved while driving a $250,000 Ferrari owned by her.

Fellow Detroit area blogger Debbie Schlussel has been very vocal in criticizing Stinger's slanted coverage in favor of the Nation of Islam's Rev. Louis Farrakhan and Muslim issues in general. Schlussel wrote in one blog post a couple of years ago:

A suspended Muslim FOX/NewsCorp anchor and reporter’s boyfriend is a top lieutenant in the Nation of Islam and a close associate of Nation of Islam leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan. Sources say this resulted in the gushing FOX 2 News coverage of NoI and Farrakhan during his 2007 visit to Detroit. Sources also say that the anchor’s co-mingled assets with that boyfriend resulted in biased coverage of the apparent target of bribery by her boyfriend, a Detroit City Councilwoman (Monica Conyers) . . .

Last week, I told you about Fanchon Stinger, the face of FOX News/NewsCorp’s owned-and-operated affiliate, whose Muslim religion affected her reporting and activism on behalf of an anti-Israel, pro-HAMAS/Hezbollah organization . . .

Sources say that Stinger interfered in FOX 2 News coverage, not only of her long-time boyfriend Jackson, but also in the coverage of the Detroit Arab and Muslim communities and the coverage of Farrakhan’s February 2007 appearance in Detroit, at which Stinger’s boyfriend, Rayford Jackson, apparently sat on the dias behind Farrakhan while he spoke . . .

Coverage before and after the Farrakhan event on the FOX 2 Morning Show, which Stinger hosts, was replete with praise for Farrakhan, and again, not a single hint of Farrakhan’s lifetime of bigoted statements and incitement to violence.

And FOX 2 News, during its gushing coverage, ignored racist statements that Farrakhan made during his Detroit visit, as well as a racist, anti-White/pro-Islam speech at the event by Malik Shabazz, and a speech by Omar Al-Bashir, the Muslim President of Sudan who is ethnically cleansing the Blacks from his country. FOX 2 also did not mention Farrakhan’s defense of Iran and its “right” to have nuclear weapons or the singing of the “Black national anthem” instead of the American one.
Fanchon insists she did nothing wrong related to her ex-boyfriend's involvement in the bribery of Conyers. She told the Local 4 station that FBI agents visited her prior to her ex-boyfriend's involvement becoming public and subsequently distanced herself from him. Schlussel notes campaign contributions made to former President Geroge W. Bush's re-election campaign at the same time her ex-boyfriend made similar contributions in apparent violation of Fox News' prohibition on its news employees from making political contributions.  Stinger seems like an odd choice for Fox59 News to hire as a co-anchor in this market, which is decidedly more conservative than her old Detroit stomping grounds. Couldn't the station have found an equally qualified person without such a controversial background?

Chicago's weather heats up Friday

it's not officially summer yet, but the heat is already on.
Forecasters are predicting it will be a scorcher with temperatures of at least 90 this weekend. While North Avenue Beach will most likely be one of the more popular places, city officials remain concerned that there will be heat-related problems.

It's not even summer officially yet but the heat will be on as Chicagoland prepares to experience what could be one of its warmest weeks in a long time. And because of that, officials at the Office of Emergency Management and Communications, the Chicago Department of Public Health and other city departments are advising residents to take the hot weather seriously. Common-sense precautions include drinking a lot of water while outdoors to avoid dehydration as well as checking on family members, the elderly and sick neighbors.
"We will activate the extreme weather operations plan, which involves more than two dozen city departments and sister agencies as the situation warrants," said Jose Santiago, OEMC executive director.
City officials are urging Chicagoans to call 311 for well-being checks. The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services plans on opening cooling centers as they monitor the temperatures.
While city officials remain concerned about the possibility of heat-related emergencies, most people out here are just trying to enjoy the weather.
Not long after the sun came up, beachgoers Liz Kerrigan and Kim Mulligan began staking their claim.
"The weather is too good. I figure I might as well come out before everybody else comes out here," Kerrigan said.
"Plenty of water, at least a bottle, bottle and a half every hour, throw some other sport drink in there to supplement a little bit," said Trevor Greco, beachgoer.
Some lucky people even get to work on North Avenue Beach.
"Heat, garbage -- that's all you can say. Heat and garbage. You can't say so much about it," said worker Rafael Arceo.
"Even my wife says, you know, I can't get mad at you working at the beach because there's some pretty ladies out here," said worker Aaron Taylor.
"Plenty of sunscreen, applying a couple of times, like every couple of hours," said beachgoer Amanda Warren.
Joe Smith says that's just the weather he needs for a good workout.
"This is just a beautiful day this morning. It was kind of rainy looking. I was looking forward to taking a walk down here," said he said.
