LIU Plays for an NCAA Tournament Bid Tonight
robert morris universityThe NEC championship has arrived. Tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN2, Brooklyn's Long Island University Blackbirds will face the Robert Morris University Colonials in a battle for the Northeastern Conference crown (they give out ceremonial headgear at these things, right?) and an invitation to the NCAA tournament. The game will take place at LIU's Wellness, Recreation and Athletics Center (known as the "WRAC," which kind of makes one wish their mascot was a wren or a wrasse, or even a wraith), where the Blackbirds are 13–2 this season. One of those home losses was actually a one-point defeat at the hands of these very Colonials, though they retaliated in January with a blowout victory at RMU. Long Island brings a streak of twelve wins and just one loss in their last 21 games to the court, while Robert Morris has donned the NEC headgear and earned the subsequent trip to the Big Dance in each of the last two seasons. LIU hasn't won the tournament since 1997. Tune in at 7 to see them try and break that streak.
