Toronto earthquake and earthquake in Rochester NY hits NYC

earthquake rochester ny
An earthquake in Rochester, NY was surprising news for New York City dwellers. Rochester, NY is close enough to NYC that residents travel for a variety of fun-filled festivals. Who would have ever imagined an earthquake in Rochester, NY with a Buffalo earthquake, too? The NYC people who felt a tremor today are believers.
The Toronto earthquake shook its way through Western New York and southern Ontario. The 5.0 magnitude earthquake was felt hundreds of miles around in every direction. The earth literally moved under the feet of New Yorkers!
WNED reports Rich Briggs, a research geologist at the United States Geological Survey in Colorado, stated, “There was an earthquake up in the Western Quebec seismic zone which runs in a band right along the border just north of Ottawa and it looks like it was widely felt. The shaking seems to have affected a pretty broad area.”
Areas shaken by the quake include Boston, Detroit, Baltimore, Buffalo, Rochester and New York City. YNN News Rochester reported the earthquake in Canada shocks were also felt at the Ontario-Quebec border.
USA Today reported the United States Geological Survey indicated east of the Rockies, “an earthquake can be felt over an area as much as 10 times larger than a similar magnitude earthquake on the West Coast.”
At this time, there are no reported injuries or major damage. Did you feel the earthquake in NYC today or are you still safely tucked away in the Hamptons on Long Island's alluring East End?

Obama gives Gen. McChrystal the boot

wivb
General Stanley McChrystal has become a casualty of his own words. The firestorm over his striking comments about the President came to a head Wednesday.
General Stanley McChrystal walked into the White House Wednesday morning as the top U.S. military commander in Afghanistan. When he left the White House meeting with President Obama, he was out.
"As difficult as it is to lose General McChrystal, I believe it is the right thing for our national security," said President Obama

The general lost his job based on comments he and his staff made during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. Comments many consider disrespectful to the administration, with the general taking shots at a number of top administration officials.
President Obama explained, "The conduct represented in the recently published article does not meet the standard that should be set by a commanding general."
The four-star general's resignation brought this reaction from people on the streets in the queen city.
Aariel Benson-Marvin questioned, "How can you just replace a general like that without taking some time to think whether we should be there or not? It's already been too. It's almost ten years."
Edward Metlak thought, "You want to speak back and tell them how you feel, but you can't because you will suffer the consequences for it."
As the U.S. casualty count climbs in the region, thoughts turn to the man who lead the forces there. President Obama has nominated the head of U.S. Central Command, General David Petraeus, to lead the forces in Afghanistan.
"He has worked closely with our forces in Afghanistan. He has worked closely with Congress. He has worked closely with the Afghan and Pakistan governments," explained President Obama.

5.0 magnitude earthquake in Canada could be felt in Michigan (w/ video)

earthquake in michigan
The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit the Ontario-Quebec border region of Canada this afternoon. It could be felt here in Michigan.
It was originally reported as a 5.5 magnitude.
Residents from East Lansing to Port Huron and Saginaw reported feeling the ground shake. There are no reports of any serious damage.
There also are reports that it shook buildings across upstate New York and into Canada and Vermont. People from Buffalo to Albany and north to Massena on the St. Lawrence River say pets were startled and plates rattled at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
The USGS said the quake occurred at a depth of 9.8 miles at 1:41 p.m. EDT.
People across Michigan State University's campus felt the effects of the quake
A professor at Michigan State University said the earthquake recorded by the university.

Kazuya Fujita, a professor in geological science, left a message on his voicemail saying he did capture the earthquake but had little information about it at this time.

"It was recorded at Michigan State. It was widely felt throughout southern Michigan as far as Battle Creek, Detroit, Bay City and Port Huron," the message said.

Mark Fellows, a university communications manager, said he felt the quake in his Olds Hall office.

"It was so mild here, that no one is really sure of what it was," he said.
No damage has been reported in the area, and several places in the state experienced tremors, a release from Ingham County Homeland Security and Emergency Management stated.

Earthquake swarms continue in Southern California

Bookmark and Share
A swarm of small earthquakes continued to occur overnight in the Big Bear Lake area.

More than a dozen quakes were recorded in the last 12 hours in the San Bernardino Mountains region, most of them small. No damage or injuries were reported.

Another swarm of small quakes hit the Santa Monica Bay on Monday, including a 3.6 and 3.7 temblor. Those quakes were felt by thousands of people, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Massive Earthquake to Strike Southern California in Ten Minutes

The Big Bear quake swarm produced smaller quakes. The first quake hit about 1:30 p.m. Monday a few miles north of Big Bear City. That registered magnitude 3.2. The second quake hit about 10 minutes later, and registered 3.1.

Hundreds of people reported feeling those quakes.

The latest recorded quake in in the Santa Monica Bay was Monday night, registering 1.9. More than 3,500 people told the USGS they felt the Monday afternoon 3.7 temblor.

Massive Earthquake to Strike Southern California in Ten Minutes
a Scientist working with the US Geological Survey (USGS) disclosed that Southern California will be hit by a massive earthquake in about 10 minutes.

Frank Albany suggests this will be California in about ten minutes.

"The earthquake will hit just outside Los Angeles", said USGS scientist Frank Albany. "I recommend everyone evacuate now before the quake hits!"

Albany suggested the quake will be in the 8.8 to 9.3 range thus making it the worst earthquake ever recorded in California history and would surpass the recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. The epicenter of the quake will be in Fullerton, CA which is close enough to LA to cause massive destruction and chaos. Albany claims that the tectonic plates 11 miles beneath the Earth are moving even as we speak.

"If we all get out of the buildings now and find a safe place everything should be OK!" Albany declared.

Some scientists interviewed expressed skepticism with Albany's claim. "He told you that 20 minutes ago and there's still no earthquake!", said UCLA geological scientist Paul Rampart. "I'm sure there will be an earthquake sometime but no one can tell you when!"

"It will be in TEN MINUTES!" insisted Albany. "Give or take".

Earthquake Los Angeles

Los Angeles Shook By Minor Earthquake
A magnitude 3.6 quake struck off the coast of Santa Monica, Calif. early this morning, waking residents across the L.A. area but causing no injuries or damage.

A small undersea earthquake has struck off Santa Monica and was widely felt in the West Los Angeles area.

The U.S. Geological survey says the 3.6-magnitude temblor hit at 2:17 a.m. PDT Monday and was centered about four miles west of Redondo Beach at a depth of 8 miles.

The USGS website recorded hundreds of hits from respondents saying they felt the quake -- mainly people in oceanfront communities but some from central Los Angeles about 20 miles east.

A Santa Monica police spokesman said he felt a "very brief and mild jolt," but had not received any calls from the public.

Christopher Knight, a Scottsdale, Ariz., resident visiting in Marina del Ray, says the jolt lasted about a second. "It was very short shift from left to right."

Scientists say quakes of this magnitude, while often felt, are generally not strong enough to cause injury or damage
